Ecumenical Creeds
In the early church, as disagreements arose about what the Bible actually teaches, it because necessary to formulate creeds to both affirm truth and guard against heresy. A creed is like a high-level roadmap of the Christian faith in summary form.
The Nicene Creed was formulated in 325 A.D. and amended in 381.
The Apostles Creed is first mentioned around 390 A.D.
The Athanasian creed focuses heavilly on the doctrine of the Trinity and came later, around the fifth or sixth century.
